Patient question
I am scheduled for a cardiovascular test but want to cancel the appointment because I am afraid of the procedure. How should I communicate this?

Professional answer
First, contact the testing department and specifically explain what you are afraid of, such as pain, enclosed spaces, the equipment, or the results. Ask about the steps, expected duration, and available support. If you have been unable to complete a test in the past due to anxiety, let them know in advance. Ask the ordering physician to explain the purpose of the test and the impact of rescheduling, then decide together on the next step. Do not take medication on your own to suppress anxiety.
