Patient question
Blood pressure rises when emotionally stressed. How do you distinguish an occasional occurrence from a problem that needs evaluation?

Professional answer
A single reading during a stressful state cannot independently indicate the cause. You can separately record blood pressure at rest and after stress, along with heart rate, symptoms, and duration. Avoid repeated frequent measurements that may worsen anxiety. A doctor will then assess based on multiple records and necessary tests. Do not wait and observe if serious discomfort or neurological abnormalities occur.
